Times are difficult for some industries, and it seems it hit the agriculture industry as well. People should realize that agriculture is one of the most important industry, if not THE most, and try and make them more profitable. If more farms just keep failing and falling into the hands of mega-corporations, so much of traditional techniques and products are lost.

Insuring the food supply is a great idea; but too few will seriously support it. Unless you grow it yourself or directly hire someone to do it for you then money may not be enough to guarantee food availability. Farms desperately seeking investors to insure people HAVE food no matter political/economic issues aren't seen as really important. By the time they are - when food is tough to get - it's far too late to get started. It's extremely discouraging for those with the experience to do it but needing investments for land set up; personal scale service isn't big enough for "traditional" means and not all want to deal with banks especially as they are often not nearly as sound as the farm. Reaching people isn't a problem but preaching to the choir. Reaching people that have means to seriously invest in it is something else.

What at a terible view!!!! These things are nothing but a blight on the landscape that can be seen for miles. They are NOT a "great addition" any more than a ugly cell tower is! Always standing there to distract what would otherwise be a beautiful view!! Another example of taxpyer subsidized crap!!

Great article. While I would agree with the conclusions, I beleive this should also be a wake up call for America to realize what a tremoundous resource that farm land is, and to take better measures to protect it for future generations...instead of constantly looking for ways to "develop" the so-called "vacant" land.

It should also be a wake up call to realize how important property and individual rights are - we are presently headed the way of Brazil/Russia.... as evidenced by the current administration's desire to find new ways for wealth transfer....
