Picture of the Week: Fall Tillage in Wisconsin

This image comes from a field in Waukesha County, WI. The tractor is pulling a deep ripper which reaches 20'' under the surface. This farmer has converted from being a no till farmer to doing fall tillage because of compaction issues. Soil compaction inhibits crop roots from growing to their full potential. Deep ripping will help break up soil compaction for next year's crop of soybeans in this corn and soybean crop rotation.
