Picture of the week: Mature Corn in Wisconsin

This picture comes from southern Wisconsin where the corn has reached full maturity. Soybean harvest has started for much of the U.S. Corn Belt and corn harvest will soon follow. Although corn plants appear completely brown and dry, the kernels must reach appropriate moisture levels before a farmer will harvest. If moisture is too high, then the farmer must dry the corn using dryer bins before storing or selling the corn. Typically, corn with a moisture level of below 20% is ready for harvest.
