Picture of the week: Hunting Strips in Tripp County

This picture comes from Tripp County, South Dakota. The farmland pictured has multiple crops grown close together for hunting purposes. The grassy, brush type crop, will be left up into fall to provide cover for pheasants. During hunting season, hunters can drive these feed plot strips while the birds are used to taking cover in them. Farmland in the Dakotas has cropland value, but also hunting and recreation value. Hunting rights in top tier pheasant regions can rent for $20 per acre on top of cropland cash rental contracts.

Remember, we are always looking for agricultural pictures from anywhere in the world. Submit pictures to farmlandforecast@colvin-co.com.
