Picture of the week: Counting Corn Plant Populations
This picture was taken a last week from Pocahontas County, Iowa. After corn has emerged, farmers will take sample plant population counts to calculate the success rate of plant germination. If the plant populations are too low in certain areas or entire fields, then the farmer will do continued analysis to see is a replant of corn can be justified. Ideal corn plant populations range between 28,000 to 32,000 per acre, according to Iowa State University.
