Picture of the week: Emerged Corn in Wisconsin

This picture was taken yesterday outside of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Corn has started to emerge in much of the Corn Belt this week. The USDA estimated that 45% of the U.S. corn crop had already emerged by this week. The 5-year historical average is 59%. 74% of Iowa corn has emerged and 56% of Illinois corn has emerged according to the most recent USDA Crop Progress Report. The very wet weather that is slowly moving out of the Midwest further delayed farmers who are still planting during this past week.
