Picture of the Week: Drainage Tile in Woolstock, Iowa

This picture was taken last month outside of Woolstock, Iowa. One of the best times to install drainage tile is the spring before the crop is planted and this year was no exception. Early April was the best time to install tile this spring due to the heavy rains that have hit the Corn Belt in late April.

Drainage tile is one of the best capital improvements that landowners can do to increase value and rents. If excess water is a problem, artificial drainage tile can boost crop yields instantly. Drainage tile typically can cost up to $500 per acre, although often a farmland does not need to be completely pattern tiled.

Remember, we are always looking for more agricultural pictures from anywhere in the world. Submit pictures to farmlandforecast@colvin-co.com.
