Picture of the week: Farmland in Snow Hill, Maryland

This picture comes from Snow Hill, MD. Maryland is a prime example of how farmland is being lost at an alarming rate across the U.S. From 1997 to 2007, Maryland lost over 15% of its cropland, according to the USDA Economic Research Service. Development is the largest cause of lost farmland in the U.S. Planting season is starting for many farmers in the Corn Belt. Farmers have been busy with spring tillage and applying nitrogen to their fields.

Remember, we are always looking for more agricultural pictures from anywhere in the world. Submit pictures to farmlandforecast@colvin-co.com.
