Picture of the week: Black Farmland in Belvidere, Illinois

This picture comes from the city of Belvidere in Boone County, Illinois. The 2010 average corn yield in Boone County was 182.5 bushels per acre, according to USDA. Farmers are anxious to start planting corn in the Midwest as soon as fields dry out. The weather has been fairly accommodating to farmers over the past week. Warm weather has helped speed up the drying process on fields across the Corn Belt. Mid-April is the typical time that farmers start planting field corn.

Remember, we are always looking for more agricultural pictures from anywhere in the world. Submit pictures to farmlandforecast@colvin-co.com.
