Picture of the week: Waterway CRP in Freeborn County, Minnesota

This picture comes from Freeborn County, Minnesota. Often times in spring, snow melt runoff will erode soil over time. To solve this problem, waterway Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) strips can be put in place. These strips allow natural grass and brush to stop the runoff flows from eroding soil. Although not able to be planted in, these strips will still return cash to the landowner through its CRP contract.

Snow melt has restarted in the upper Corn Belt thanks to a large winter storm that passed through this week. Flooding is expected to follow in the upcoming weeks prior to corn planting in mid-April.

Remember, we are always looking for more agricultural pictures from anywhere in the world. Submit pictures to farmlandforecast@colvin-co.com.
