Picture of the week: Manure on a Wisconsin Farm Field

This picture comes from just outside Montfort, Wisconsin. This particular farm recently had manure spread on it to help fertilize it. Manure acts as a great alternative to manufactured fertilizers by building up organic material in the soil and adding important micronutrients back into the ground. Manure contains the big three chemicals that are essential for plant growth; nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. It is not uncommon to find lease contracts between local operators and animal producers for manure.

Remember, we are always looking for more agricultural pictures from anywhere in the world. Submit pictures to farmlandforecast@colvin-co.com.
