Picture of the week: Equipment Stored for Winter

This tillage equipment has been stored for the winter here in South Dakota. The 2010 harvest started and ended early for many farmers across the Midwest. Farmer’s fall tillage was also completed early and equipment was stored soon after. Last year, many farmers were forced to do fall tillage in spring, after the frost came out of the ground, because the fall of 2009 was so wet and harvest was delayed. 2010 was an exceptional year for farmers in the U.S. Yields were high in many areas, drying costs were low, commodity prices were high, and work was finished early.
