Picture of the week: University of Wisconsin Greenhouses

This picture comes from Madison, Wisconsin. Greenhouses from the University of Wisconsin’s Department of Agriculture can be seen in this picture, along the shore of Lake Mendota. Agriculture in the state of Wisconsin accounts of about 10% of the total work force. Here are some interesting facts about Wisconsin agriculture from the Wisconsin Farm Bureau:

  • Wisconsin ginseng farmers account for 95% of the crop produced in the U.S.
  • The average dairy cow generates more than $17,000 a year in economic activity.
  • Dairy contributes more to Wisconsin ($20.6 billion) than citrus to Florida ($9 billion) or potatoes to Idaho ($2.5 billion) economies.
  • Top commodities produced include milk, corn, cattle, and soybeans.

Remember, we are always looking for more agricultural pictures from anywhere in the world. Submit pictures to farmlandforecast@colvin-co.com.
