Picture of the week: Turkeys in the Backyard

This picture comes from just outside Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The wild turkey is becoming more popular in urban areas as their rural habitat is being lost to development. Turkeys enjoy access to food sources which include almost any type of farmland. Of the 300 million turkeys raised each year in the U.S., 15% are consumed on Thanksgiving Day, making up the over 650 million pounds of turkey eaten on Thanksgiving here in the U.S., according to the National Turkey Federation.

Happy Thanksgiving from Farmland Forecast.
