Picture of the Week: Mature Corn in Minnesota

This picture was taken yesterday in Champlin, Minnesota. Corn has been changing colors lately, signaling that it has reached maturity. On Monday, the USDA reported that 73% of the U.S. corn crop has entered the dented stage of growth, which is near maturity. The crop is significantly ahead of the 5-year historical average of only 55% dented by this week in August. Farmers will start to harvest corn in the upcoming weeks across portions of the Corn Belt, even before they start to harvest their soybeans. Once field corn reaches around 18% moisture, farmers will harvest to prevent from low test weights at the elevators.

Remember, we are always looking for more agricultural pictures from anywhere in the world. Submit pictures to farmlandforecast@colvin-co.com.
