Picture of the week: Harvesting Hay in Wisconsin
This picture comes from Waukesha County, Wisconsin. Areas of this county received upwards of four times the average rainfall throughout the month of June, producing an excellent wheat crop in well drained fields. The combine in this picture is harvesting the wheat grain itself, while it is leaving piles of straw for another tractor to pass over and bale up with a baler. Wheat prices had been rallying for a while in early July, despite the U.S. record supplies. Farmers were happy with the upward swing in prices, especially during the early harvest.
