Picture of the Week: Planting Soybeans in Macoupin County, Illinois
This picture of a farmer’s soybean planter comes from Macoupin County, Illinois. It was taken about a month ago as farmers were done planting corn in Western Illinois and starting to plant their soybeans. Soybeans were able to grow very quickly with the warm weather at the end of May, but heavy rains over the past few weeks have started to worry farmers. It has been difficult for farmers to find a dry and windless day to spray their soybeans across much of the Midwest. Recent storms with large amounts of precipitation, violent winds, and hail have damaged some crops in the Corn Belt, but the early planting and crop condition reports are still restricting grain prices.
