Picture of the week: Row crops in Milan, Italy
This picture was taken last week on a train, just outside of Milan, Italy. Although it is hard to tell what crop is being grown in the picture, it looks like it is some sort of row crop due to the marking and seed rows. Italy is famous for their vineyards, but Italy also grows excellent vegetables and other fruits including apples and oranges. The northern region of Italy is typically home to pastureland and grain production, while southern Italy grows more fruit and vegetables. Although farming is a large sector in Italy, the average farm is only 17 acres in size, according to the U.S. Department of State.
