Picture of the week: Emerged soybeans in Wisconsin

These pictures were taken just last week in Wisconsin. This farmer must have gotten a very early start on soybeans, because these beans have already emerged in Southeastern Wisconsin. Typically farmers will plant their corn before their soybeans because corn requires a longer growing season which relies on growing degree days, while soybeans have a shorter growing season that relies on level of sunlight. Next week’s storms moving through the Midwest won’t provide sunshine for these soybeans, but the storms may provide needed moisture. In some areas, the storms will frustrate farmers who are trying to hurry to finish up their planting.

Remember, we are always looking for more agricultural pictures from anywhere in the world. Submit pictures to farmlandforecast@colvin-co.com.
