Picture of the week: No-till planting in Wisconsin

This picture comes from Summit, Wisconsin during the first week of planting. This farmer is all set to start planting his corn for the year. Notice the field that is about to be planted has no tillage done. This farmer practices the conservation tillage method of no-till. Read more about conservation tillage methods in an article we wrote, http://farmlandforecast.colvin-co.com/2010/01/19/common-methods-of-conservation-tillage.aspx.

As of Monday, 50% of all U.S. corn had been planted and 7% had emerged, according to the weekly USDA planting progress report. Corn prices have increased over the past few days due to China’s purchase of 115,000 tons of corn due for delivery in August, according to the USDA.
