Picture of the week: Windbreak trees

This picture comes from Wisconsin. This line of trees acts as a windbreak for the farm field. Evergreen trees are the windbreak of choice because they retain their needles year round. In the summer, the trees help prevent wind ersion on the soil of the farm field, and in the winter the trees prevent snow drifting. Planting trees around your house can save on the energy bill as well, by protecting the house from wind, according to the Department of Energy.
