Picture of the week: Wild turkeys in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin

This picture comes from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. These wild turkeys are out in an open field near freshly cut soybean and corn fields. The tom turkey is fanned out to impress the hens during feeding. Wild turkeys were almost extinct at one point in the 1930s, when the population dwindled to 30,000. Thanks to wildlife preservation, the wild turkey population is estimated to be at 7 million, according to the National Wild Turkey Federation.

·         Minnesota produces the most turkeys in the US

·         90% of American’s will serve turkey on Thanksgiving

·         Abraham Lincoln specified that Thanksgiving would fall on the last Thursday in November
