Picture of the week: Wet fields in Beardsley, Minnesota
This picture comes from out on the Western boarder of Minnesota around Beardsley. Rain has seriously delayed soybean harvest around the area. Fields are too wet to get combines in and the soybeans are now too wet. Flooding this late in the year puts the crop at risk because frost is occurring quite often. Since these soybeans have dried out once, and now moistened back up, they can actually explode. Many farmers in the area have been working hard on getting in as many fields as possible prior to the recent rain, but many fields are still not harvested.
The rain has also made many dirt roads nearly impassable. It is one thing to harvest the crop, but another to transport it out of the field and to the storage bins.
Remember, we are always looking for more agricultural pictures from anywhere in the world.
